Tina Thai

Writing & Narrative Design

Hey there!

I’m a game writer from the Canadian prairies, currently based in Vancouver.

I got my start in academia, where I earned my MA in Communication and Media Studies writing about queerness in game narratives. Afterward, I joined Brace Yourself Games and wrote on independent games across many genres – from dystopian sci-fi in the city-building sim Industries of Titan, to the expansive, tactics driven mecha warfare of Phantom Brigade. Later, I would go on to lead the narrative vision of Rift of the NecroDancer, a spin-off title following the rhythm game cult classic Crypt of the NecroDancer.

Outside of game writing, I’ve contributed to critical anthologies and consulted on animated projects. I’ve also worked on volunteer fangames, thriving in passionate creative spaces dedicated to reaching people and cultivating pleasurable player experiences.

When not at work, I’m hobbyist photographer and baker, and I also like to keep plants that inevitably die on me.

Don’t ask me about my novel.
